FTP
stands for File Transfer Protocol, the protocol
used on the Internet for exchanging files.
FTP
is most commonly used to upload a file
to a server (e.g., uploading a Web page
file to a server, so it will be visible
on your website)
There
are various ways to upload your web site
and make updates. Here we will explain
2 methods:
1.
CuteFTP/Crystal FTP
We recommend these specialist FTP programs as they give you
greater control of your files, let you change permissions
and generally help speed things up. They also have a directory
where you can store multiple web site connections, so if
you are uploading to many sites in one session you can connect
to all of them in turn from the stored Hostname, Username
and Password.
The software packages are available for trial download below:

2.
Internet Explorer
The second FTP method can be used via Internet Explorer itself,
no specialist FTP program is required.
All you need to do is enter the username, password and hostname
(domain name) into the address bar and press Enter. Below is
the format that the address should be entered as
"ftp://username:password@domainname.com"
Replace the details above with the correct information and
the site contents will appear in the window. Open up an additional
window that contains the files you want to upload and then
drag them over.
